BANGKOK, 18 November 2013 – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has said it will gather solid evidence before revealing the names of businessmen who sponsor the anti-government protests at Ratchadamnoen road. The protest leaders and sponsors might face legal action if found violating any security provisions of the criminal code.

DSI Director-General Tharit Phengdit said on Sunday that it was too soon to disclose the names of protest sponsors. The DSI was transcribing protest leaders’ speeches and trying to find connections between the sponsors and the rallies, the official said.

The department earlier warned the protest leaders that their speech urging citizens to go on strike and resist paying taxes was in violation of Sections 116 and 117 of the criminal code. The sponsors are also subject to legal actions.
