BANGKOK, 16 May 2012 – Airport Link operator, State Railway of Thailand Electrical Train Company (SRTET), has revealed a plan to procure seven additional train compartments, estimated to be worth 4.2 billion baht.
Deputy Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and SRTET’s acting president Pakorn Tangjetsakao said that during the SRT’s board meeting next week, he will propose a purchase of seven extra train compartments. If the board approves the plan, the matter will be tabled at the next cabinet meeting for further consideration.
The proposal is aimed at providing speedier service to Airport Link passengers. According to SRTET’s plan, the delivery of train compartments is expected in less than 2 years.
Mr Pakorn confirmed that despite previous mechanical glitches, SRTET has no plan to halt the Airport Link services for maintenance. He explained that spare parts are being used to keep the services going, adding that the train manufacturer, Siemens, has inspected the carriages and has successfully located the source of the problem.
The acting president also addressed the Airport Link staff’s demand for a pay raise, saying that the company is currently pushing for salary increases to be approved by the board.
