PRD getting ready for Buddha Jayanti event

BANGKOK, 10 May 2012 – The Public Relations Department (PRD) will begin a public relations campaign for the event “Buddha Jayanti: 2600 Years of Buddha’s Enlightenment” next week. A temple fair and exhibition will be organized to celebrate this auspicious occasion.

Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister Thongthong Chandrangsu on Thursday presided over a meeting on the preparations for the Buddha Jayanti event to be held before the Day of Vesak on 2 June 2012. The meeting was attended by Deputy Director-General of the PRD Ladawan Bua-eiam and representatives of Buddhist organizations.

Highlights of the event include a temple fair at Siam Paragon Shopping Center from 17-20 May, an exhibition on Buddha’s enlightenment and religious speeches by renowned monks. There will also be an international academic seminar on Buddhist philosophies from 31 May–2 June at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Ayutthaya and the UN Convention Center in Bangkok.

The campaign will be publicized via various media channels, such as radio, television, publications and websites.
