BANGKOK, 8 May 2012 Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has confirmed the government will strictly regulate and monitor the rice buying and rice pledging schemes to ensure maximum benefits for farmers and the general public.
Acting Government Spokesman Anusorn Eiamsa-ard said the PM had called on relevant ministers to check the amount of pledged rice and rice farmers’ production capacity to see whether they meet the targets set by the government. The ministers are also required to periodically report findings to the premier and the Cabinet.
In addition, Ms. Yingluck assigned PM’s Office Minister Nivatthamrong Boonsongpaisal to compile the government’s achievements over the past year for assessment. The Bureau of the Budget and the National Economic and Social Development Board will study each policy of the government to see whether it is worthwhile. The study should be completed within two weeks before the government announces its one-year performance.
