BANGKOK, 1 May 2012 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has indicated that the government is planning to improve workers’ vocational and language skills to prepare them for the upcoming ASEAN Community in 2015
On the occasion of Labor Day today, Ms. Yingluck delivered her speech on the national TV and radio program this morning. During her live broadcast, the Prime Minister showed her gratitude and appreciation towards labors in the country for their contribution to the Thai economy and their roles in the society. She said the government will try to improve the living standards of all workers after they have been impacted by economic and social problems, both in and outside the country.
Ms. Yingluck added that they shall have better social welfare, security at work and a healthier life. Among several improvements made by the government to alleviate workers’ hardships, the Prime Minister cited the implementation of the 300-baht wage scheme, which she said would be applied to all provinces by next year.
Moreover, Ms. Yingluck said manufacturers will be encouraged to keep their properties free of drugs and improve workers’ skills as well as to promote a just environment at work by strengthening worker relations. Thai labors wanting to work overseas will be assisted and protected throughout the process by the government.
The Prime Minister concluded her speech by wishing Thai people and those in the Thai workforce happiness, prosperity and good health.
