BANGKOK, 19 APril 2012 -Secretary General of the Engineering Institute of Thailand, Thanet Veerasiri, has advised residents in Phuket not to return to their homes at the moment if cracks were found between beams and columns.

He urged people living in the areas where tremor and aftershocks were felt to check for cracks in their own homes. If any cracks were found between beams and columns, they should find some place else to stay until their homes are fully repaired.

Homes and buildings situated near the hills could be at risks as the ground underneath has shifted. He said property owners should seek professional assistance until they are certain that their properties and the surrounding areas have not been damaged by the quakes.

Mr. Thanet added later that the Engineering Institute of Thailand will again dispatch a team of engineers to inspect homes and buildings for Phuket residents tomorrow.
