BANGKOK, 17 April 2012 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has called a special meeting of the Water Resources and Flood Committee Management to discuss the progress of the water management plan in detail while admitting that the country’s water management system still lacks efficient data integration.

With the objective of monitoring the progress of the master plan for water resources management, the meeting’s main focus rested on 7 important missions, including rehabilitation and conservation of water sources and ecology; management of major dams; rehabilitation and improvement of infrastructure; establishment of a data base, forecast and warning system; allocation of water retention areas; response plan for individual area and establishment of water resources management agency.

The PM has also insisted on the issue of communications during natural disasters. Thus, the Water Resources and Flood Committee Management will serve as an information center and a war room, which analyzes and evaluates data from relevant agencies, such as the Meteorological Department, in order to provide the public with a warning in a timely manner.
