BANGKOK, 17 April 2012 – The Ministry of Commerce and the Thai Lifestyle Products Federation have commenced the Bangkok International Gift Fair and Bangkok International Houseware Fair (BIG+BIH) to promote Thailand as a hub for lifestyle products in the ASEAN region.
Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) Mrs. Nantawan Sakuntanak said there are 7 organizations behind the BIG+BIH 2012. They consist of the Association of Lifestyle Products, the Thai Gifts Premiums Decorative Association, the Thai Toy Association, the Thai Stationary Association, the Home Decorative Design Association, the Northern Handicrafts Manufacturers and Exporters Association and the Design Objects Association.
Taking place from today until April 22, the event comes under the concept of “Heart of Design Lifestyle Showcase of ASEAN” with the objective of providing a platform for Thai designers to showcase their products and, most importantly, to promote Thailand as a hub for lifestyle items.
Inside the exhibition, there are two distinctive sections the first one is the Design Hall which houses many products designed by the new generation of Thai designers and the second one is the International Pavilion which displays items from overseas.
Mrs. Nantawan said the lifestyle product exhibition is held twice a year with one in April and the other one in October. The exhibition is held at BITEC Bangna on a 40,000-square-meter space with more than 1,600 display booths and more than 600 participating business operators.
The first four days of the event are limited to retailers and businesspeople, and the general public will be able to enter on the last two days, April 21 and 22. Over 100,000 people are expected to attend the event this year.
