BANGKOK, 13 April 2012 – The Tourist Police is confident there will be no security threat during Songkran festival this year which has seen a continuous flow of tourist arrivals so far.

Commander of the Tourist Police Division, Pol.Maj.Gen.Adit Ngamchitsuksri today led 50 officers to Khao San road, one of the main venues of Songkran celebrations in Bangkok, to increase security during the festival. The commander said he expected the road would be as crowded as other years because foreign tourists were no longer concerned about the past violent incidents in Thailand. Pol.Maj.Gen.Adit added that he believed no national security-related incidents would take place on the Thai New Year this year.

Thailand still sees a high rate of tourist arrivals of 40,000 people a day.
