BANGKOK, 11 March 2012 – The hotel occupancy rate in Songkhla has increased to 80-90% with a forecast to reach 100% this weekend despite last month’s car bombs in the province.

Chairman of the Songkhla Tourism Industry Council and Hat Yai-Songkhla Hotels’ Association, Sonchart Pimthanaphunporn, said private enterprises, especially those in the group of hotels and accommodations, reported that Malaysian tourists were gradually booking rooms. Most of the hotels in Songkhla saw an occupancy rate of 80-90%. The chairman said the tourism situation in the province returned to normal in no time thanks to cooperation from all sectors.

Mr.Somchart added that the high occupancy rate showed that tourists were still confident in Thailand and the public relations measures used to boost tourism in Songkhla were very effective.

Mr.Somchart said he believed the Songkran festival this year would generate around 50 million baht in the province, decreasing from the estimate in a normal situation by 50%.
