Princess Bejaratana’s remains moved to cremation site

BANGKOK, 9 April 2012 – His Majesty the King this morning assigned His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to preside over the ceremony of transferring the royal remains of Her Royal Highness Princess Bejaratana from the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in the Grand Palace to the royal crematorium in Sanam Luang.



At 7.30 hr HRH the Crown Prince arrived at the Throne Hall and lighted the joss sticks and candles at the royal offerings to the royal remains and lighted joss sticks and candles to pay tribute to the Buddha image of HRH Princess Bejaratana’s day of birth. He then offered saffron robes to monks. This was followed by prayers chanted by titled monks for the deceased.



HRH the Crown Prince then let officials to take the outer urn apart and moved the inner urn containing the royal remains to the Golden Palanquin with Three Poles. The royal urn was then transferred upon the Golden Palanquin with Three Poles from the Grand Palace, with the procession of honor, to the 17.5 ton Royal Great Victory Carriage standing in front of Phra Chetupon Monastery. Here, the Great Outer Golden Urn was re-assembled on the inner urn and placed on the roofed throne on the Royal Great Victory Carriage. The procession, joined by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, then continued on foot to the Sanam Luang ceremonial ground.



In the procession of honor were also the troops in their full attire, victory drums, bugles, trumpets and conch shells, golden royal umbrellas, ladies-in-waiting, court ladies, and followers. Before entering Sanam Luang, the Royal Urn was transferred to the Golden Palanquin with Three Poles and carried into the ceremonial ground to make three anti-clockwise rounds of the royal crematorium.



His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn represented His Majesty the King in accompanying the royal urn on the rounds of the royal crematorium, after which the royalty left the ceremonial ground.



The symbolic royal cremation will take place at 16.30 hr, today, at the Royal Crematorium, with the participation of Their Majesties the King and Queen and members of the Royal Family.



Their Majesties the King and Queen and members of the Royal Family will proceed to the Royal Crematorium again at 22.00 hr for the actual royal cremation.
