BANGKOK, 7 April 2012 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has urged provincial governors to promote the best-known agricultural items of their provinces in a bid to help solve falling agro-product prices.

Chairing a meeting with provincial-level policymakers, Ms. Yingluck asked the governors to list the top products of their areas so that the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry can further develop the products in accordance with the consumers’ demand.

Ms. Yingluck also assigned the governors to conduct ecological studies in waterfront areas in order to map out long-term environmental development plans that would ensure proper natural resource usage and pave the way for useful agricultural researches.

The premier is positive that various researches would help improve agro-products, particularly One Tambon One Product (OTOP) items, which in turn could boost the country’s economic potential before it becomes part of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in the next three years.
