BANGKOK, 23 March 2012 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is pushing for integration of three major health funds for better treatment efficiency. The three funds will start working together on 1 April 2012.

Prime Minister Yingluck delivered a special lecture on the government’s universal health care, emphasizing on prevention of diseases and healthcare equality for all Thai people. She said one objective of the 30-Baht-Per-Visit Health Scheme was to make people think that they pay for the service rather than requesting for the service for free. The scheme was deemed highly successful and more people had participated in the program since 2004, the PM added.

The three funds are the National Health Security Fund, the Social Security Fund and the Civil Servants’ Welfare Fund. Expected results of the integration include better healthcare, more accessible medical service with the help of technology and emergency treatments in all hospitals.
