BANGKOK, 22 March 2012 – The contestants of the Miss Thailand World 2012 beauty pageant met with the Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, Mrs. Nalinee Taweesin, to show their support for the establishment of the National Development Fund for Women, as well as signing up as members of the program.

In her capacity as Chairperson to the Women’s Development Fund Committee, Mrs. Nalinee took the opportunity of the beauty contestants’ visit to the parliament to stress on the importance of women’s role in the society. She pointed out that women have been gaining more acceptance while also playing a more important role everywhere across the world, including Thailand. However, there are still women who are being taken advantage of or abused as a result of social values and beliefs.

On this occasion, the thirty beauty contestants also shared their support and experience in developing the role of women in society. With an interest in the problem of human trafficking, one of the contestants said that she has set up a club to raise funds for the purpose of helping women who have fallen victim to human trafficking crimes.
