BANGKOK, 11 April 2011 Former world number 9 tennis player, Paradorn ‘Ball’ Srichaphan, has decided to join Thai politics as he has announced to compete in the upcoming election under the wing of the Chart Pattana Puea Pandin Party.
Speaking in a press briefing on Monday at InterContinental Hotel in Bangkok, Mr Paradorn, alias Superball, stated that he would be happy if he could contribute good things to the nation by working in politics as he wished to include sports as a national agenda and use sports for the national development.
The former Thailand number one tennis player continued that he has already sought advices and received full support from his family members as well as his ex-wife Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova, who was also present in the press conference.
Mr Paradorn reasoned that he decided to join the Chart Pattana Puea Pandin Party because the party has a clear stance and policy to support the sports society; however, he would let the party decide whether he would be competing as party-list candidate or constituency candidate.
Meanwhile, key Chart Pattana Puea Pandin Party member Suwat Liptapanlop, also the president of the Thailand Lawn Tennis Association, welcomed the former tennis star’s decision, saying that he regards Mr Paradorn as his younger brother, who is globally famous as a tennis player. And above all, Paradon is a good man, he said.
